Russia: Putin declares all military deaths as state secrets
May 29 , 2015
President Vladimir Putin has declared that all Russian military deaths will now be classified as state secrets — in times of war as well as peace.
Activists expressed concern over the decision which could discourage reporting of Russian troops’ deaths in eastern Ukraine.
The Russian president’s spokesperson, however, stressed that the amendment in the decree was not linked to the Ukraine conflict.
Revealing state secrets in Russia can lead to a seven-year prison term.
