Rouhani Condemns US for Economic Sanctions

  • Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran, has condemned the US over its imposing of economic sanctions on the country. He has labeled the measures as "psychological warfare" and something which is directed to "sow division among Iranians". The sanctions would target various sectors including the country's oil trade. The EU, however, has shown support for Iran and vowed that it would protect the firms which do "legitimate business." The sanctions were imposed after the US withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal. The deal was signed during Barack Obama's presidency to limit Iran's controversial nuclear activities in return of sanctions relief. Mr. Trump believes that the recent economic pressure would make Iran agree to sign a new deal.
