Robot discovers melted nuclear fuel from Fukushima disaster
July 24 , 2017
Possibly the first ever images of deposits of melted nuclear fuel from Fukushima nuclear plant have been discovered by an underwater robot. The information has been provided by Tepco, operators of the robot. The images show huge amounts of rocks that are more like solidified lava and layers of lumps below the unit three reactor. If it is indeed confirmed to be remains of that catastrophe then it would be a major step in efforts to clean up after the nuclear disaster. It was in 2011 that the power plant was affected by a tsunami.
