Richard Verma appointed new US ambassador to India
September 19 , 2014
The United States has finally named its India envoy. Richard Verma, the new ambassador, will be the first person of Indian origin in the role, reports say.
President Barack Obama’s announcement comes ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first visit to the US.
Verma, a lawyer and a former Senate security adviser, has been close to Obama since at least 2008.
After Nancy Powell’s resignation as the US ambassador to India in March, the important post has remained vacant.
