Meanwhile, talks in Geneva between United Nations envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, and senior American and Russian diplomats failed to reach an agreement.
Brahimi was looking to discuss with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, William Burns, and Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, how to implement a plan proposed by the Action Group for Syria in June. The plac has called for an immediate cessation of violence and the establishment of a transitional government.
According to a joint statement read by Brahimi, all sides had maintained there could be no military solution to the conflict and highlighted the need to find a political solution.
