Rebel polls are an obstacle to peace, says EU
November 3 , 2014
Slamming the “illegal” polls held by rebels in eastern Ukraine, the European Union (EU) said the elections were “a new obstacle on the path towards peace,” according to media reports.
Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko said the elections in Donetsk and Luhansk regions — the two so-called people’s republics — were "a farce.”
Moscow, however, said it “respects” the will of the people in the rebel-held areas.
The pro-Russia separatists also held what they are calling parliamentary polls in the two regions.
