Rebekah Brooks formally charged over phone hacking

  • Former News International boss Rebekah Brooks has been formally charged over phone hacking, according to Scotland Yard.

Brooks answered bail at a London police station on Thursday and is due to appear in court on September 3.

Last week, it was announced that Brooks and six other former News of the World journalists were to be charged with conspiring to intercept communications.

The seven are accused of conspiring to intercept voicemails between October 2000 and August 2006.

The offense carries a sentence of up to two years in prison or a fine.
