Cuban President Raúl Castro has thanked Pope Francis for his role in brokering the historic diplomatic thaw between Cuba and the United States.
The Pope and the Cuban leader met for nearly an hour at the Vatican, a meeting which later drew wholesome praise from Castro, who indicated he could even “come back to the Catholic church.”
Castro said that the Cuban Communist party has started allowing religious believers, adding that he was “very impressed” by the Pope’s “wisdom” and “modesty.”
