Rapid cuts in carbon emissions vital, says IPCC
November 3 , 2014
In its most comprehensive assessment yet, the United Nations (UN) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has warned of “severe, widespread, and irreversible” impacts of climate change on people and nature unless there is a sharp and rapid cut in carbon emissions, according to media reports.
According to the IPCC report, the risk of extreme weather has already increased due to climate change, and worse is in store — but ways to deal with global warming are available as well as affordable.
Calling it a “historic” report, UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon said there is “no ambiguity” in its message.
