Quake in Ecuador kills two

  • Two people were killed and eight injured after a 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck Ecuador on Tuesday, August 12, as per media reports.

    People in the capital Quito rushed to the streets as buildings swayed due to the quake. Air services in the city’s main airport were temporarily suspended. Minor landslides that caused roadblocks were also reported.

    The epicenter of the quake was 14 miles to the northeast of Quito, according to the United States Geological Survey.

    Ecuador is located in an earthquake prone zone.
