Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, has defended the military operations undertaken by the Russian forces in Syria. Media reports quoted the Russian President saying that the aim was to stabilize Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s legitimate authority in the country. Denying that the Russian air strikes were targeting moderate groups rather than ISIS militants, Putin said that Moscow wanted to create conditions for a political compromise in the country. Reportedly, the Syrian forces have made significant gains against the ISIS militants.
