Putin attacks west for 'trying to contain Russia'
December 5 , 2014
Vladimir Putin has said the west has been trying to contain Russia for “decades, if not centuries,” in his state of the nation address.
Taking an uncompromising stand, amid economic woes and deteriorating relations with western countries over the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Putin defended the Russian takeover of Crimea, terming it a “historic rejoining.”
National pride was seen as “luxury” for some European nations, but for Russia “it is a necessity,” the Russian president said, emphasizing that there was no point in issuing threats to Moscow.
