President Trump walks out of Paris climate deal
June 3 , 2017
As per reports, on Thursday 1 June, President Donald Trump announced his decision to withdraw from the Paris climate deal.
The announcement didn’t come as a surprise, since the President had been tweeting his disappointment on the terms of the deal that he perceives were against U.S. interests. He also blamed China and India for negotiating favourable terms for themselves despite receiving billions in U.S. funds for reducing carbon emissions. In quitting the deal, the United States joined the ranks of Nicaragua and Syria in not joining the Paris agreement.
World leaders, business heads and leading environment experts have largely criticized the U.S. President’s move, with the EU making it clear that they would move forward as planned, with or without U.S. support.
