President Trump to remove India and Turkey from its Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) programme
March 5 , 2019
US President Donald Trump has intended to terminate the preferential trade treatment provided to India and Turkey under its Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) programme. According to GSP Programme, certain products from countries like India and Turkey can enter the US duty-free if they meet a set of criteria which is established by the Congress. President Donald Trump has said that India has failed to assure the US a reasonable access to its markets. So, he has decided to remove India. On the removal of Turkey, it is said, Turkey is sufficiently economically developed so there is no need to provide it with a preferential status.
