Power grids in renewable era to face their first major test in the form of solar eclipse
August 21 , 2017
On August 21 a Total Solar Eclipse will cover the entire area between Oregon and South Carolina. This is expected to be the biggest challenge yet for electric grid and power operators in the US even as they would have to sit glued to the monitoring systems that they work with. It is being said that for years, the grid and utilities operators have been making plans for this day. In this period, they have been calculating factors such as the timing as well as reduction in output from solar energy because of the Solar Eclipse.
