Poroshenko, rebel leader reach ceasefire agreement
September 5 , 2014
Ukraine’s president Petro Poroshenko and a key rebel leader have reportedly agreed on a ceasefire, which is part of a peace proposal put forward by Russia’s president Vladimir Putin.
But on the ground in eastern Ukraine, the situation has been tense, with reports of a rebel force heading towards Mariupol and Ukrainian government forces targeting the separatist-held city of Donetsk.
Leaders gathered for a Nato summit in Wales have cautiously welcomed the ceasefire.
