'Popeye', hitman responsible for scores of murders, released from Columbian jail

Jhon Jairo Velasquez, better known by his nickname Popeye, has been released from Combita prison in Columbia after completing around 60% of his sentence.
He got a reduction for good behavior and studying, according to media reports.
‘Popeye’, the key hitman of Pablo Escobar, carried out scores of killings for his boss, a drug lord, in the 1980s.
Velasquez, 52, who spent 22 years in jail, was allegedly responsible for several high-profile assassinations, including that of Luis Galan, a presidential candidate, in 1989.
