Pope meets Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church
February 13 , 2016
In order to bridge a 1000-year-old split between the Eastern and the Western branches of Christianity, the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Pope met in Cuba recently. The background of the historic meeting was to issue a global appeal for the protection of Christians the world over and Middle East in particular. Both Pope Francis and Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill, showed concerns over the mass scale destruction, sacred objects being profaned, churches being ravaged, people of Christian origin being exterminated, and made a joint reference appeal of world peace directed towards to the militant groups.
