Pope Francis urges leaders in the Philippines to fight corruption

  • Pope Francis has urged leaders in the Philippines to combat corruption and bring an end to social inequalities.

The Pope was addressing people in a welcome ceremony held at the presidential palace of this overwhelmingly Roman Catholic country. He called upon his audience to “reject every form of corruption.”

He later celebrated mass in the capital.

Massive crowds greeted the Pope when he arrived on Thursday. On Sunday, he will hold an open mass in Manila, expected to be attended by millions of people.

He is also meeting survivors of the devastating 2013 cyclone.
