Pope Francis slams EU's treatment of immigrants
November 26 , 2014
In a strong critique of the European Union’s policies and actions, Pope Francis has said that Europe had become “elderly and haggard” and was hostage to an economic model that was not in tune with democratic ideals.
This was the first papal speech to the European parliament in 25 years, delivered to over 700 MEPs in Strasbourg at the French-German border, media reports say.
The pope also pointedly criticized Europe for the way it treated immigrants and for the high unemployment among youngsters.
