Pope Francis Expels Well Known Chilean Religious Leader on Sexual Abuse Charges

  • Reports say Pope Francis has expelled a Chilean priest Reverend Cristian Precht on charges of involvement in sexual abuse of children, amid growing reported cases of sexual abuses of minors by priests of Roman Catholic Churches across the world. The announcement comes at a time when Chilean police is raiding church offices across Chile for unearthing new cases of sexual abuse evidence that the church officials allegedly concealed from authorities. Now expelled Reverend Cristian Precht is a well-known religious leader of Chile who shot to prominence when in 1980s he headed Church’s Vicariate of Solidarity human rights group that challenged ex-dictator Augusto Pinochet for ending torture in the country. Earlier, Precht had denied the sexual abuse charges.
