Pope Francis embraces man with severe skin condition
November 8 , 2013
An image showing Pope Francis embracing a man suffering from neurofibromatosis is worth a thousand words.
People with this genetic condition suffer great pain, paralysis, deafness, retardation and even cancer in some cases. Treating it is extremely complicated and such patients are usually discriminated against because of their appearance.
Pope Francis paused for a couple of minutes while greeting pilgrims and comforted this man with a kind embrace in St. Peter's Square.
These images have gone viral on social networking sites.
"I'm an atheist, but the more I hear about Pope Francis, the more I like him," one tweet read.
