Pope Francis Calls for Total Ban on Nuclear Weapons during his 3-day-long Japan Tour

  • Pope Francis has said while delivering his speech at the ground zero of the second of the two 1945 US atomic bombings on Japan, that the Nagasaki memorial reminds us about the horror that can be unleashed by human beings on each other. He reminded the world leaders that nuclear weapons can’t protect human beings “from current threats to national and international security” and therefore urged them to scrap all nuclear weapons. Pope Francis has started his 3-day long Japan-trip to emphasize his call for banning all atomic weapons globally. The Pontiff went on to say that “Peace and international stability are incompatible with attempts to build upon the fear of mutual destruction or the threat of total annihilation”.
