Pope Francis begins South America tour with a visit to Ecuador
July 6 , 2015
Pope Francis has started his South America tour, his second visit to the continent since he became pontiff in 2013.
Arriving in Ecuador, which is the first stop of his week-long trip, he said that progress and development “must ensure a better future for all.”
According to the Vatican, the region’s inequality and poverty would be the focus of his tour.
Pope Francis won’t be visiting the larger nations of Latin America as he wishes to spend time in the “peripheries.”
