Pope changes rules of divorce for women

  • Pope reportedly told a woman in Argentina that it's alright to take communion, despite the fact that she was married to someone who had been divorced. The reports have resulted in questions regarding the Catholic Church changing its stand on the issue.

NPR noted that the pontiff called Jacquelina Lisbona and told her that it was okay for her to "get the Holy Communion because she was not doing anything wrong" and "she was absolved of all sins."

The Vatican said the conversation took place between Pope Francis and the woman and "the magisterium of the church is not defined by personal phone calls."
