The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has shortened his Asia trip after the US President Donald Trump has been diagnosed with COVID-19 infection. The US State Department has said on Saturday that Pompeo will depart for Japan on Sunday. However, he’ll not visit Mongolia and South Korea, as per schedule. Pompeo was originally scheduled to start his 3-country tour on Sunday (October 4, 2020) and end on Thursday (October 8, 2020). However, after Trump’s novel coronavirus detection, Pompeo will leave for Tokyo today (October 4, 2020) but will return to Washington DC on Tuesday (October 6, 2020). The US Secretary of State will hold consultations with his Japanese counterparts and also attend meetings with Indian and Australian foreign ministers.
