Pings go silent in the case of missing jet
April 9 , 2014
Officials saw the opening of a big lead when an Australian ship heard pings that could have been coming from the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. However, investigators haven't been able to recapture the same signal ever since. This fact is worrying particularly because the black boxes of the jet have probably run out but "we need to continue for several days right up to the point at which there's absolutely no doubt that the batteries will have expired," Australian official Angus Houston said.
"If we don't get any further transmissions, we have a reasonably large search area of the bottle of the ocean to prosecute and that will take a long, long time."
Reports suggest that the ship includes an underwater vehicle capable of searching the depths of the missing place. It's expected to conduct 20-hour solar missions in order to do so after heading downward.
