Philippines: Rebels hand over arms in 'peace gesture'
June 16 , 2015
A key rebel group in the Philippines handed over its first set of weapons as part of a peace process.
The Moro Islamic Liberal Front (MILF) handed over 75 weapons as a gesture towards peace, during an event in Muslim-dominated Mindanao in presence of president Benigno Aquino, according to reports.
Around 145 members of the rebel’s armed wing are to be integrated into the mainstream. The administration will give $555 in cash to each rebel for their rehabilitation.
