Philippines: Pope Francis meets typhoon survivors at Tacloban
January 17 , 2015
Pope Francis met survivors of a super typhoon in an emotional mass in the Philippines, but his trip to Tacloban city had to be cut short as another storm threatened the area on Saturday, January 17, according to media reports.
Tacloban was one of the cities destroyed by typhoon Haiyan, which killed more than 7,000 people and devastated several fishing communities in the country in November 2013.
The Pope told thousands of people gathered that when he saw the destruction unleashed by the storm 14 months ago, he felt the need to “be here with you.”
