Rodrigo "Digong" Duterte wins Philippine presidential elections
Following the withdrawal of his opponents, Rodrigo "Digong" Duterte has won the Philippine presidential elections. Though the official results are yet to be declared, the main rival, Mar Roxas has conceded defeat.
Philippines elections: Rodrigo Duterte poised to win presidency as rival concedes
The mayor of Davao City, Rodrigo Duterte, is poised to win the presidency of the Philippines. According to media reports, rival Grace Poe made the concession on Monday night. However, formal results of the presidency will not be announced until June. According to the Commission on Elections, early exit polls show Duterte leading with 38.92 per cent of the votes counted, in comparison of Poe’s 22.14 per cent.
Millions of voters lined up to cast their votes in the national elections as voting began on Monday in the Philippines. As per reports, millions of voters would be electing the President of the country. People would also choose the Vice President, Congress and Senate of the country. The anti-establishment firebrand Rodrigo Duterte is expected to win the elections. Polls started at 6 in the morning and voting will continue till 5 pm. Though, election results may be known as early as Monday night; however, it could also take days.
