Philippine typhoon death toll hits 300
December 7 , 2012
More than 300 people have lost their lives and hundreds more are missing in the wake of Typhoon Bopha, which hit the southern Philippines on Tuesday.
According to the Civil Defence Office on Thursday, at least 325 people were confirmed dead and another 379 missing.
People were killed across eight provinces with eastern Mindanao being the worst-hit.
Rescuers have reached most of the affected areas but have struggled to get to some isolated communities.
The typhoon came almost a year after Typhoon Washi battered northern Mindanao. More than 1,300 people died in that storm as rivers burst their banks and flooded communities.
