Part of Spain wants to illegally break off
March 27 , 2014
Autonomous community Catalonia is located in northeastern Spain and reports suggest that its presidents wants it to be its own EU state. Hence the parliament has decided to hold a referendum on secession, which the court said would be illegal since a region "cannot unilaterally call a referendum on self-determination to decide on its integration in Spain."
The Prime Minister also mentioned that the situation shouldn't be compared to Scotland since Britain didn't have a constitution keeping Scotland from holding a referendum.
About one-sixth of the population of the country resides in Catalonia.
