UK Parliament Passes Brexit Bill, Paves Way to Trigger Article 50

  • As per reports, the Brexit bill has been passed by the parliament, clearing the way for the government to trigger Article 50. This will help the UK to leave the European Union.

It is expected that the bill will receive Royal Assent and become law on Tuesday.

After the objections were overturned by the MPs, the supremacy of the House of Commons was accepted by Peers on late Monday.

The decision was the result of the short period when the legislation bounced between parliament’s two houses which happened because of a disagreement over the issue.

Reports say that theoretically Article 50 can be invoked by the Prime Minister, which officially starts the Brexit process on Tuesday.

However, some other sources said that the process will not take place this week and the PM may have to wait till the end of the month to notify UK’s intention to leave the European Union.
