Pakistani-origin politician is London's new mayor

  • Sadiq Khan was declared the first muslim Mayor of London on Friday. In a historic win, Sadiq Khan, a former Human rights lawyer and an MP from East London beat UK-born James Goldsmith. His campaign did struck a chord with the ethnic minorities of London which constitute three million out of a population of over 8 million. Khan, in his victory speech, mentioned his humble background of Council estate. The mayor will have control over four major policies of London including transport, policing, housing and planning and environment.
