Pakistani activist Sabeen Mehmud shot dead in Karachi

Sabeen Mehmud, a prominent human rights activist in Pakistan, has been shot dead in Karachi, sending shock waves among the country’s activist community.
Mehmud and her mother were shot by unidentified gunmen in their car after she hosted an event to discuss allegations of torture in Balochistan province, media reports said.
The 40-year-old Mehmud, who headed a charity called The Second Floor, had received death threats on previous occasions. Her mother is believed to be in critical condition.
