Pakistan Facing Religious Protests after Minor Changes in Electoral Oath of Lawmakers
November 26 , 2017
Leader of Tehreek-e Labbaik Pakistan party and firebrand cleric Khadim Hussain Rizvi called his followers to bring entire Pakistan to a halt after the Pakistani government changed certain wordings of the oath taken by the lawmakers. The religious protestors allege that the reported changes in the electoral oath were done to appease religious minorities. After the violent protests across Pakistan (spreading over 30 cities including Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, and many more), the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz party swiftly rolled back the changes. However, the protest is still going on. A court earlier ordered government to clear the protests but peace resolution to the problem is yet to be realized.
