'Paddle in Seattle': US activists protest Arctic oil drilling
May 17 , 2015
In a novel form of protest, hundreds of people got into small boats and kayaks in the US city of Seattle to voice their opposition to Arctic oil drilling by the energy giant Shell.
The protest, dubbed ‘Paddle in Seattle’, was held by activists who say the exploration of oil and gas would harm the environment.
One of Shell’s oil rigs has arrived at the Seattle port. This and another oil rig would be moved to Alaska. The US government has given conditional approval to Shell to explore oil in the environmentally-fragile region.
