Online taxi services banned in Delhi after Uber rape allegation

  • Internet-based taxi services have been banned in Delhi after a woman alleged that the driver of the Uber cab she was travelling in raped her.

    The driver was later arrested.

Earlier, officials in the Indian capital banned Uber for not conducting adequate checks on drivers. It was not immediately clear if the ban was working as the app was still accepting bookings.

Meanwhile, officials said only six radio taxi firms that are registered have the permission to run in the city.
