Obama waiting for Congress before striking
September 1 , 2013
President Obama is seeking the authority of Congress before launching the military strike on Syria. He said he strongly believes the U.S. should punish Assad for the attack but having this debate is necessary as well.
The matter is supposed to be taken up by Congress on Sept. 9 and the president didn't say if he would order the strike if Congress doesn't approve of it.
Obama referred to this attack as being an "assault on human dignity" and asserted that Assad killed his own people.
He said the country can't "turn a blind eye" to the "worst chemical weapon attack in the 21st century."
