Obama to veto Keystone pipeline bill

  • The White House has said that the US president Barack Obama will veto a bill that seeks to approve the Keystone XL pipeline, in case the Republican-controlled Congress passes it, according to media reports.

A vote on the controversial bill is likely to happen in the next few days.

Josh Earnest, the White House spokesperson, said the proposed legislation undermines a “well-established” process of review.

Obama has said that the project would mainly benefit oil firms in Canada. Environmentalists are also opposed to the pipeline.
