Obama offers an eulogy to Mandela
December 11 , 2013
President Obama said some stirring things in his eulogy to Nelson Mandela in South Africa. He called Nelson a "giant of history" and said he makes him want to become a better person.
"Mandela taught us the power of action, but also ideas; the importance of reason and arguments; the need to study not only those you agree with, but those who you don't," Obama said. "He understood that ideas cannot be contained by prison walls."
According to the White House, Obama began working on his remarks last week after Nelson's passing.
Over 90 heads of state attended the ceremony that celebrated the icon's life.
