Nuclear talks: Obama criticizes senators' letter to Iran

  • President Obama has slammed a letter from US Republican senators to Iran, saying they were “interfering” in the nuclear talks.

Mocking the senators, Obama said they had formed an “unusual coalition” with the hardline religious leaders within Iran.

The letter tells Iran that a deal needs congressional approval to come into force.

Nuclear negotiations with Iran have generated considerable controversy in the US. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress last week in which he warned that the nuclear deal could pave the way for an Iranian bomb has only added to the political divide.
