North Korea to Hold Annual Military Parade a Day before Winter Olympics 2018 Starts in South Korea

  • North Korea has defended its plan of holding the annual military parade a day before the commencing date of Winter Olympics 2018 (on February 9), to be held in South Korea. DPRK has rescheduled the annual military parade from April 25 (taking place for last 40 years) to February 8 in 2018 as they celebrate 70th anniversary of Korean People's Army (established on February 8, 1948). While US Under-Secretary of State Steve Goldstein opined against holding of North Korea’s “massive” military parade, monitoring group 38 North said DPRK’s military gathering will be significantly lower key this year in comparison to previous years as satellite imagery suggests only 12,000 troops have gathered at a parade training facility.
