North Korea is facing further food shortages with production in the main growing region set to halve, according to the UN food agency.
UN representatives who visited the provinces of North and South Hwanghae discovered that wheat, potato and barley harvests faced the risk of being down by as much as 50% owing to drought.
Food and Agriculture Organization official Liliana Balbi said that the UN agency did not have sufficient information to say if North Koreans were starving, but described the situation as “serious.”
