North Korea experiences 'worst' internet outage; Cyber-attack suspected
December 23 , 2014
North Korea experienced its worst internet blackout on Monday, 22 December, with country’s online access going “totally down.” This outage led to a speculation that the country's Internet connections were under cyber-attack. The incident was not immediately linked to the US threats of retribution over North Korea's alleged role in hacking attack on Sony Pictures for releasing a film on North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
The US government has declined to comment on the incident. Earlier, it had threatened to respond to North Korea's “cyber vandalism.” There has not been any reports to determine whether the internet connection was overloaded or it came under attack.
