North Korea Conducts "Very Important Test", Indicates Persuasion of New Path as Year-End Deadline Nears

  • North Korea’s state media KCNA has reported on Sunday that the country has carried out a “very important” test at a rocket testing ground called Sohae satellite launch site (which the US officials had earlier said that the North Korean administration had promised to close). The concerned test comes at a time when North Korea warned the US that they will pursue a “new path” if the stalemate continues regarding the denuclearization talks. Experts believe that North Korea carried out a static rocket engine test, which KCNA had called a “successful test of great significance”. The report on the test  by KCNA also said that “The results of the recent important test will have an important effect on changing the strategic position of the DPRK once again in the near future.” With the year-end deadline set by Pyongyang coming to an end, North Korea’s ambassador to the United Nations Kim Song said on Saturday that the lengthy discussions with the US are not required now and the talks on denuclearization are now off the negotiating table.
