North Korea Announces Dismantling of its Punggye-Ri nuclear Nuclear Test Site
May 13 , 2018
North Korea has reportedly vowed to dismantle its Punggye-Ri nuclear test site sometime between May 23 and 25. The announcement comes a month before the historic summit between the US President Donald Trump and North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un on June 12 in Singapore. North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said dismantlement of the nuclear site will involve collapse of its tunnels, blockage of entrances, removal of research/observation facilities and security posts. While making the pledge, Kim said that there is no further need of nuclear tests by North Korea as they’ve completed their goal of developing nuclear weapons. The US President Donald Trump has welcomed North Korea’s announcement by calling it “a very smart and gracious gesture”.
