Joseph Stiglitz, Nobel prize-winning economist, and Swiss anti-corruption expert Mark Pieth have resigned from the Panama Papers commission. Both had joined a 7-member commission, which was set up after 11.5 million documents of Mossack Fonseca (law firm of Panama) was leaked in April 2016 showing potential tax evasion by the rich and powerful through opening up of offshore accounts. Stiglitz hit out at the Panamanian government by accusing them of not being committed to probe notoriously opaque financial system of Panama. Reports say, the duo resigned after the Panama government refused to guarantee that the report will be made public.
