No independence: Scotland chooses to remain united with the kingdom
September 19 , 2014
Scotland has voted decisively to remain part of the United kingdom in Thursday’s historic referendum on Scottish independence, with the pro-union camp winning more than 55% of the vote.
David Cameron, the British prime minister, said like millions of Britons, he was “delighted” at the verdict. He said his government had heard the concerns of those who voted for independence and a “new and fair settlement” will be created for Scotland and other members of the union.
Alex Salmond, the man leading the ‘yes’ campaign, conceded defeat and thanked the people “for 1.6 million votes for Scottish independence”.
