No further recruitment of foreign workers in Malaysia

  • Malaysian authorities after being criticized widely for its decision to bring in 1.5 million Bangladeshis to work in the country have banned recruitment of new foreign workers. This move might affect the Indian labourers as well. According to Ahmad Zahid, Deputy Prime Minister as well as the Home Minister, if an employer wants to hire foreign workers then he could recruit from the foreign workforce already existing in the country. Malaysia is heavily dependent on foreign workers from Indonesia, Bangladesh and India in the manufacturing and construction sectors as most of the Malaysian workers are reluctant in working in these sectors. The decision made by the government does not include the domestic help sector.
